Ok Lost Fans,
For those of you who heard our 18th episode where I said I was not a fan of the inclusion of baptism in the show, I have a question for you.
I got a message on Myspace from someone asking me why I didn't like it, and I realised maybe others are as well. If you do want to know, or are interested please say in the comments section of this post. If enough people want to know, I'll post it here. If only 1 or 2 ask and no one else cares, i'll figure something else out. Probably what would happen is I would ask you to message me on Myspace same as the other person did. The reason I would like to have it here is that I don't want to send out the same message like 10 or more times. I'm sure you understand.
This is an important issue for me in the show, and just so you know, it's not because I'm not a religous person. The reasons have far more to do with the show itself, and less to do with my personal views on religon.

i had one comment about the godparents. you (i think it was you...) mentioned that if the parents died then the godparents would have legal guardianship for the child. i learned that the godparents would have the reasonability for the child's religious guidance not the legal guidance. so the godparents would be in charge of making sure the child went to CCD and learned the faith and raised catholic.
love your podcasts.....its the best podcast out there!!
I think they keep a good balance - to me, it doesn't seem out of place. The most it does is provoke some discussion. Other shows have been championed by groups for their religious content but thankfully it never happened to Lost.
The whole 'Others are a cult' business has yet to be fully revealed but this is where the religious content will be in the remaining 3 seasons.
I would love to hear why you don't want baptism included in the show, Mr Scrooge. :)
Speaking of religious symbolism, In the dream sequence w/ the mother & child & dove, you can see the Nigerian plane as it's crashing in the jungle.
Why you didn't include that in your Fire+Water podcast is an unforgivable sin.
I didn't mind the inclusion in the show.. I'm not Christian but I accept the symbolism and references as a part of Lost and something the writers like to do.
I think we'll find out a bit more about religion on the island once we get to the Temple in season 4.
I'd like to hear your reasoning Josh. Even though I actually am a practicing Christian, I always like to hear what people have to say about that kind of thing. I don't like to judge and I really wanna hear what you have to say.

Go for it Josh, I'm curious what your reasoning is. Personally I never gave it much thought one way or another... but it seems to be in line with people redeeming themselves on the island.
I can see where you're coming from. By and large, the baptism (we assume) isn't going to affect anything that happens on the show, and Eko's dead (although granted, they hadn't planned that at this point). Any motivation for putting it there is a mystery.
Thing is, I heard a theory that Aaron's baptism may end up manifesting into some real physical protection for him, and while I'm not much of a "religious" person, that would be pretty freakin' cool =D
since I'm an atheist, I'm not really a fan of the (often used) religious aspects in the show but it doesnt really bother me.
I think if you have something to say about the topic Josh, you should just go ahead and say it on the show. Worst thing that could happen is, you get some hate mail, so what ;)
