Episode 31 - Par 77

A very crazy and special epsiode of The Lost Flashbacks. We discuss season 3 episodes Enter 77 and Par Avion. What's crazy about that? Well, there's no Amanda, which is sad and the show definetly is lacking something huge. BUT, I am joined by Jimmy, who offers his own take on the episodes, and makes Josh very happy by making a Simpsons refference(something I would do a lot more if Amanda watched the Simpsons). We are also joined by David from The Lost Community Podcast, nuf said. That podcast is amazing, and I was excited to learn it will be returning soon.

This is also a very special episode because we mix things up a bit. I do Enter 77 like I would any episode. But for Par Avion, Jimmy and I do a live commentary, which is perfect cause there are so many cool lines, that needed to be a part of clips. I'd love to know what people think about the live commentary, and if we should do it more after we are done with the rewatch.

Happy Christmachannakwanzaakusmas!

Amanda here, to impart some of my holiday wisdom/ridiculous Lost trivia with you. As you are probably aware, TBS airs A Christmas Story on repeat for 24 hours every year. And as I sat down to watch the premiere, my eyes glanced over the credits, and I saw the name "Zack Ward." And I thought..."Hmm...that name sounds familiar." But as I watched the movie....again....I didn't see any faces that rang any bells. So I did what any web-obsessed child of the 2000s would do - I hit IMDB. And I hit trivia gold. So if you find yourself watching one of those innumberable (or twelve) showings of that familiar movie, I beseech you as a Lost fan to keep one thing in mind :

Scut Farkus is Jack's best man.

Happy Holidays, and stay Lost <3

The Number 23

I saw the movie, The Number 23 today. It was ok, not great. Being a fan of Lost, and knowing what "the numbers" mean it was cool to learn all the crazy stuff that exists about that number. It really makes me think they chose it for that reason, just as I think they chose 42 since it's the answer to life the universe and everything.

I don't want to say much about the movie cause I don't want to give anything away, but if you're a Jim Carrey fan(esspecially when he's in a dramatic role) definetly check it out. It also stars Virgina Madsen. If anyone else has seen it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Episode 30 - Tricia Tanaka in a Strange Land

I dunno if Tricia Tanaka was in a strange land, but I do know that Amanda was during this show. She's in her CAR!!! Driving from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. That's pretty cool stuff. She even invents a new technology, Boonetooth. If you don't get it, then you gotta listen to the show.

We discuss maybe the worst episode of Lost; Stranger in a Strange Land, and also one of the funniest; Tricia Tanaka is Dead.

We have a lot of fun and are joined by some awesome people. Listen to the whole show to hear our very special guest...BIG-O!!.

Download the episode here, and enjoy.

Even if you don't care about Lost, who wouldn't want to tune in to see if she gets pulled over for driving while on a cell phone??

And to all those who stuck around in the chat room...WE LOVE YOU!

Episode 29 - Not in Your Eyes

FINALLY, two amazing episodes from season three. There was so much so talk about, no way we could get to it all.

Not in Portland, and Flashes Before Your Eyes were flashbacks about two non-losties, but they definetly kicked off the 2nd pod with a bang. This is a long one, but honestly, it could have been WAY longer.

If you're not like me, and you want some BIG spoilers, listen to the end, Amanda talks about a HUGE one. But I don't want to know what it is, so if you must E-mail us with your comments about it, but don't comment about it here.

Thanks guys!

Here's the ep.

Episode 28 - The Cost of I Do

No, this episode is not discussing how much weddings cost, silly you. We discuss Lost Episodes in this podcast. In this episode we talk in depth about 3.5 The Cost of Living, and 3.6 I Do. We are joined by an amazing group of people who add a ton to the discussion.

Things you definitely should listen for:

- We rehash our old discussion of "Fate vs. Coincidence"
- In the words of Nikki Stafford, "Nikki and Paulo...Why?"
- What did Locke see, and is there a different "monster" on the island?
- Why did Smokey and/or the Island want Eko to Confess?
- Will this really be the last time Josh mixes up Locke and Eko's name?

- Nathan Fillion is definitely Man-Crush material...right?
- Evil Jack is so cool, and Crazy Jack is just funny.
- A very cool Deleted Scene.
- Jacob's List!?!?!?
- mmmm, Taco Night.
- Was that opening Jack scene ruined by that amazing sneak peek we got?
- And Many More...

The Magic Number Episode

Hey kids - its Amanda this time...remember me? You probably won't after this episode, because I don't talk much...yay Josh! No, our episode is not a series of suggestions like "don't be ashamed to ask for directions," or "remember to put the seat down." This week, we discuss 3.03 Further Instructions, and 3.04 Every Man For Himself. This means that you get to listen to us rant about bad flashbacks, bad flashback characters (on my part...), polar bears, Pickett, and much much more. As always, you can leave any comments in the comments for this post, or you can email us at lostflashbacks@gmail.com

Join us next week as we finish out the mini season with 3.05 The Cost of Living, and 3.06 I Do (or don't...)

Episode 26 - A Tale of Two Glass Ballerinas

YEAH!!!

Not only am I posting this after the two craziest days at work(Black Friday, and non-color coded Saturday), but I just saw Battlestar Galactica: Razor. Some very interesting stuff, it definetly will be a part of Josh's "totally non-lost related comments" this week.

HOWEVER, on to the episode. We kick season three off with a bang. And of course by bang I mean horrible and disasterous technical difficulties. Oh yes, fans from early on will recall our problems? THAT'S NOTHING. Here's the basics, Amanda gets kicked off for at least 20 min, and Josh's clip is interupted by a horrible sound that signified iTunes saying, "Hell no, you are not playing that!!". Don't you love when you computer shuts off during your podcast? I know I do.

What's good in this episode? Well for one, neither Josh nor Amanda curse...wait, I think I do. Well that's ok...oh yeah!! We do discuss Season Three episodes A Tale of Two Cities, and The Glass Ballerina...ON A TUESDAY!!!

Ok, and this I HAVE TO POINT OUT. As listeners of this episode will see coincidence is having a cool time with our show recently. Not only is the "27" and "Nov 29" coincidence going on, but if you listen, we talk about blood type, and all that jazz. Well, on that nights NEW episode of one of Josh's favorite shows "House", airing AS WE RECORDED, [Spoiler alert] the answer to the whole medical mystery was the guys blood type was wrong. [spoiler over]. How Fraking cool is THAT!!!

Anyway, this is a long ass post for a new episode, but give me a break, I think I said, "Would you like a gift receipt?" about 100-150 times over the past two days.

Don't forget to tune in to Episode 27, 2 days after Josh's 27th Birthday(Nov. 27), on November 29th as we cover Futher Instructions(Josh's least favorite Locke episode), and Every Man for Himself(maybe the best of the 1st six).

Baptism in Lost - Josh's comments

Ok all,

I know I pr0mised this a long time ago, but it's finally here. Beore I begin I want to lay down a few ground rules, and such.

First, I do not want my feelings and thoughts about Fire + Water to be taken as anything other than my feelings about the episode, and the inclusion of baptism. It in no way shape or form is an attack on christians nor christianity. Please do not take it as such, and if Pat Robertson is reading this, I welcome all your hate mail, but please direct it to me, and not to Amanda.

Second, any discussion that follows must be civil. Not that I expect it, but I will not tolerate any attacks, or fights. If that happens, we will shut down the topic, and no more posts will be allowed.

Third, what follows may soon take the form of a rant. If that happens, do not feel the need to read it all. As many of you know, I tend to ramble, and repeat myself.

Finally, and most important, what is said here MAY offend, or upset some people. If that happens I am sorry. But please post why, or e-mail us. If you feel the baptism is totally neccesary please let me know. You may change my mind. :) If you are really worried about getting upset, but want to know what I think anyway, you can go to the second paragraph. That one's about my thoughts on the episode and series, rather than the religious aspect.

Here we go.

OK, in Lost season 2 episode, Fire + Water there is a lot of talk about baptism. First, I'll discuss why I don't like it being in the show, then I'll go into more detail about why I don't like it in terms of the series. I have no problem with the idea, or the practice of baptism, nor do I have a problem with it being discussed in the show. Lost is about people, and many people believe in baptism. I also enjoy many of the religious refferences in the show. I do however have a big problem with someone telling me which religon is right and wrong, and almost trying to convert me. Now, I know, Lost is not trying to convert anyone, they simply are telling a story. That is true, but listen to what is said in that episode. They don't say, "I believe" or "Many Christians believe(I don't know if all christians believe in baptism)". They make it seem like it's a FACT that if you don't get baptised you won't go to heaven, or as the show seems to put it, something horrible will happen to you. As a Jewish person I'm actually offended by that notion, that unless you get baptised, and something happens to you you won't see your love ones when you die. And as a non-religious person, I'm offended by the idea that what I consider to be superstition, and make beleive be treated as solid fact. Even worse in my eyes, is that according to them, if I get married to someone who was baptised, and I was not. She is taught she will not see me in the afterlife, and I will go to hell, or whatever. That's horrible! As a person who don't beleive that it doesn't bother me what someone else thinks will happen to me, but it definetly bothers me that someone I love is taught they won't see me when we are dead simpoly because I didn't get a silly ritual done. And if I have kids someday(and I hope to)? What about them? Shouldn't they get to choose to be baptised, and not told all the stories? I mean kids believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy(if you beleive in those two don't listen to me, I'm an evil godless liberal, what do I know?). I'm getting off topic here, baptism is fine if you beleive it, but don't try to tell me horrible things will happen if I don't get it done, I'm looking straight at you Dalton!

In more specific terms of the episode and series. They act like this baptism NEEDS to be done or something horrible will happen, as if Charlie hadn't had that insane dream and some how came to the realisation of a baptism, that Aaron would be dead. If all the crazy, creepy shiznit on the island can be stopped by a non-priest(and yes, in terms of the way God would see it, I don't think he's a REAL priest) and some water, then I'm done with this show. If at some future date something is about to happen to Aaron, but he is then saved by some miricle and they claim it's cause the long dead Eko bapstised him, I will be so pissed, you have no idea. I feel Fire + Water is a waste of an episode. Charlie has dreams, goes crazy, Claire beleives him, Locke doesn't, Locke then beats the crap out of him. On the other side of that, it's NEVER metioned again. They make an entire episode about getting the bah-bee baptised, but so what? Eko dies, and so does Charlie!!!! So basically, the deal is...if you get baptised you're ok, but the guy that baptised you, and the guy that told you you should do it, they are goners.

For those who don't get it, imagine if there was an episode where Sayid was trying to get everyone to convert to Islam because he told them it would protect them from the Others, and some DO! That's a little more extreme, but the idea is the exact same.

Well friends, I hope you all get what I'm trying to say. Any questions, comments or otherwise would be excellent. A discussion about this issue would be nice.

Episode 24 - Live Together, Dial Alone

Here it is! An episode on the blog right after we've recorded it!!!

This episode covers the season 2 finale, Live Together, Die Alone. We discuss what we love and don't love about this episode. Did Desmond really kill Kelvin? What is the timeline of Libby's past? Will we ever get to see Razinsky and how would he have done at Perfection? Why is Charlie acting so strange at the end? Is this the craziest we've ever seen Jack? AND when is the final scene of the episode really taking place? Please post your thoughts on these issues, and anything else.

Click here to Download the episode

AND THEN.....

Since we got cut off, we started our Season 2 recap and Season 3 preview just after we were done with episode 24.

Episode 25 has Josh, Amanda, and speical guest Jealousguy discussing what they thought about Season 2, and what they think about Season 3. We also get another amazing spoiler section from Amanda, and we discuss the mobisodes. We mainly agree that season 2 is not as good as season 1 or 3, and discuss why this might be. Please post your thoughts, or hold them for Amanda's special blog topics.

Episode 20 - The Whole Maternity Truth

Please post your thoughts on anything you want, including, but not limited to:

- Josh and Amanda's rage toward Claire and Sun
- Our total and utter confusion at the Oceanic Airplane mobile
- Benry's brilliant(or stupid) comments at the end of The Whole Truth
- Is Libby really a clinical psychologist?
- Would you take a razor(not Josh's new phone) with you on a hot air balloon?
- Anna-lulu actually being likable.
- And much much more

Baptism in Lost

Ok Lost Fans,

For those of you who heard our 18th episode where I said I was not a fan of the inclusion of baptism in the show, I have a question for you.

I got a message on Myspace from someone asking me why I didn't like it, and I realised maybe others are as well. If you do want to know, or are interested please say in the comments section of this post. If enough people want to know, I'll post it here. If only 1 or 2 ask and no one else cares, i'll figure something else out. Probably what would happen is I would ask you to message me on Myspace same as the other person did. The reason I would like to have it here is that I don't want to send out the same message like 10 or more times. I'm sure you understand.

This is an important issue for me in the show, and just so you know, it's not because I'm not a religous person. The reasons have far more to do with the show itself, and less to do with my personal views on religon.

New Episode, well kinda new. THE LONG ONE

Sorry for the delay folks, Amanda and I have been pretty busy.

Here's our Episode where we cover The Long Con, and One of Them. Two absolutly amazing episodes.

I also want to add that the Dharalars Lost podcast covered some great aspects of things we've talked about in an episode called "Lost's Broken Promises". It's one of my favorite podcasts and I just listened to this episode that came out about a month ago. I wish I had heard it before we talked about Jack's Army, and The new Sherrif.

Episode 19 - The Long One

Episode 18 - Hunting Fire + Water Party

Well here it is. The episode that covers our most favorite episodes. From Jack's Army, to Locke's logical actions what's not to love? Actually, we are not in love with these episodes, but we both find much to enjoy and take away from both of these episodes.

Don't worry that it's broken up into two parts, Talkshoe decided to be really mean and make things very difficult for us. But who doesn't love technical issues at 2:00 AM?

Also listen for Josh's story about his new phone, NBC's odd obsession with Lost, our enjoyment with Hubby, and our disgust with Clocke.

Episode 18 - Hunting Fire + Water Party

Don't mistake rebuttal for support

Its a famous, iconic line from the show - "Don't mistake coincidence for fate." But do we all interpret it the same way? Clearly not. We discussed it in the episode, and now we want to hear your thoughts! Amanda thinks that Eko is on the side of coincidence, and Locke is still a firm believer in faith. Josh thinks that Locke has shifted gears to thinking of the more rational coincidence, and the priest in Eko makes him a strong believer in fate.

What do YOU think?

The Great Claire Debate

So, by now you've surely noticed that both Josh and I aren't the biggest Claire fans of all time, so if you're a Claire fan, THIS is your chance to stick up for your favorite Lostie. We want you to make us love her - whether its by citing memorable scenes, or just reminding us how darn cute she is sometimes! I can't wait to hear what you guys have to say!

New Episode!

Here it is, the much anticipated 23rd Kate! We experienced some technical difficulties in this episode, but we also had some GREAT discussions that we hope the listeners will get involved with. Just so everyone knows, when you hear "Namaste! .....byyyyyye," the episode is honest-to-goodness over...don't listen to the last ten minutes of nothing x.x

The 23rd Kate

Also, be sure to check out both of the posts above (as promised!) to get in on our discussions from this episode!

Heroes is a Lost Flashfoward!!

If you saw the Heroes season 2 premiere you saw something very important. Apparently, after getting off the island Jack changes his name, learns he can fly, runs for congress, wins in an unethical manner, and then gives up everything to save the World from his exploding brother. What we saw in Through the Looking Glass clearly takes place after these events, but perhaps before the events seen in the Heroes season 2 premiere.

Very interesting. And more to come, I'm surprised Lost producers allowed this kind of a spoiler to be given out.

  • You laughed at all of these, and you're going to put some of your own in the comments!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOST!!!!

Three years ago today(September 22) a strange new show aired on ABC. No one knew it then, but in time that show would become a force on network TV, and be obsessively followed by fans. FANS LIKE US!!

Here's Josh's Top 6 Things to do to celebrate the birthday of Lost.

4)Speak using only Lost episode titles. For example, "The Hunting Party Abandoned Everyman for Himself"

8)Annoyingly point out sightings of the numbers to anyone you see. "Look!! 42nd Street!! 42!!!"

15)Jump into the closest body of water with your jeans on, and your shirt off.

16)Watch every single Lost episode back to back. Since there are far more episodes that there are hours in the day, watch them on fast forward. Trust me, crazy Jack looks hilarious on fast forward. When you're done with that, listen to The Lost Flashbacks Podcast, and Email us at lostflashbacks@gmail.com

23)Give clever Sawyerish nicknames to everyone you speak to. Remember, they must be funny, and offensive.

42)Quote your favorite Lost character when appropriate. For example, if it's Locke, say, "Don't tell me what I can't do ever!!"

Don't forget to look below this post, and Download Episode 16 of the Lost Flashbacks. Count the amount of times I call Goodwin, "Ethan", it will make you question my sanity.

A little (read: big) teaser for the show tomorrow ;)

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I know we're in the off-season, but Wednesdays still equal Lost for me because of the show =D Here's a little preview of what we'll be discussing tomorrow - and maybe some incentives to come and join us?

-I will be unveiling my very own personal crackpot theory. Oh yeah, its out there...but its pretty interesting as far as I'm concerned...and you know you wanna hear about it!

-One thing that I'd really like to discuss is Locke's crossword puzzle from 2.08 Collision. Unfortunately, I think it might come off a little awkward on air. But wait, I have this blog! So I'll just post my findings here.

So we all see that Locke is working on number 42 (=O!), and that they clue says "Enkidu's friend." Hopefully you also saw that the answer to this clue was Gilgamesh, as Locke was just filling it in when we saw the shot. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I knew little to nothing about that story, so here is what Wikipedia has to say:

Enkidu
Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh

I would love to hear theories on how anyone can relate that to Lost...could Locke (or anyone else) represent Enkidu? Gilgamesh?

In other news, there are several other clues listed, and we also see many of the answers that Locke has already filled out. The hints are:

Down
36. Macbeth...place
37. Belgian Port
38. Robbed
40. WWII movie feature : hyph. wd.
42. Enkidu's friend
43. Less brazen

And under the Across column, we can see "...African." I'm assuming that the first clue reads "Macbeth's place," and I'm assuming that that is Inverness. The Belgian port is Ghent, "robbed" is "ransacked," but I have no idea what "WWII movie feature : hyph. wd." or "less brazen" could be. There are two definitions of brazen, the literal and the figurative, so I suppose either could be applicable, but without seeing how many letters or anything I can't even make a guess.

As I said, we also see many of the answers that Locke has filled in, but some of them don't even make sense. I'll list all of the ones that I caught:
  • Age - there have been many theories about the Other's aging process after we saw Richard Alpert in 2.20....could this be an early hint?
  • Covet - Self explanatory, but interesting nonetheless.
  • Edgar - Marvin Candle's new alias in the Orchid film was Edgar Hallowax...hmm...or maybe a reference to Edgar Allan Poe? Something about Locke has always reminded me of his writing...
  • Log - the inhabitants of the Pearl filled out Log books that were sent by pneumatic tube to a field in the middle of the island, though those who filled them out were told that they would be sent to another location for review.
  • Iona - An island in the Hebrides
  • Tense - well there's certainly some tension between a couple of the characters on the show...Jack/Locke, anyone? And there are many more such relationships just around the corner.
  • Group - Well we've had a group of Losties, and now we're adding a group of tailies to make one big fantastic group....and lets not forget the group of Others that we have yet to be introduced to at this point.
  • Cicero - very interesting
  • Brr - a polar bear reference? Maybe a nod to Penny's friends in the Arctic?
Someone much smarter than me has already gone onto Lostpedia and created an article for this crossword where you can see all of the other answers. There is a very interesting point about what would happen if Locke had the incorrect answer to 42 down, and the answer was actually "scripture." You can also see screenshots there, but here's mine, complete with with upped saturation and contrast :

So thats all the teaser you get! If you have anything to add about things I've mentioned, or anything else in either episode, JOIN US LIVE tomorrow at 9 p.m. EST. The talkcast ID is 35516. More Cool Stuff from the Emmy's!

This is totally non-Lost related, but is related to the last post.

I want to mention two awards given at the Creative Arts portion of the emmy's.

1) Battlestar Galatica, the only show I beleive to be currently better than Lost won for best special effects!! Ronald D. Moore can now rest easy knowing the coolest science fiction scene in 30 years(the Galactica falling through the atmosphere and then jumping away at the last moment) is appreciated.

2)The winner for Outstanding Orignal Music and Lyrics. Now before I say what won, I want to add that I've never really liked the Emmy's, and Tony Bennet winning like 20 of then is one reason why. They always seem like they are given out by people in thier 60s. With that said, I have to admit that this surprised me, and made me very happy.

The winner is, "DICK IN A BOX" from SNL!!. That's right, Justin Timberlake singing about a dick in a box won for most OUTSTANDING original music and lyrics. If you have no idea what this is, please go to Youtube.com and search for "Dick in a Box", and I garantee you'll laugh hysterically.

Now that I've made Amanda mad by typing the word dick several times on the Blog, I can depart with a job well done.

Holla for the Emmys...and this week's episode!

So the blog is back! Thanks to everyone who commented, it was much appreciated. I figured there was no better way to bring the blog back than with the most exciting Lost news in awhile...thats right. Terry O'Quinn finally won the well-deserved Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series =D But the Emmys weren't JUST about Lost for us. I really enjoyed the opening, and the bit with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert....even though I was super confused when Steve Carrell won o.o;

Okay, so it was pretty much just about Lost for us....

Josh's favorite part of the show?

Terry O'Quinn's win, OF COURSE!

Amanda's favorite part of the show?

Terry O'Quinn's shirt :

Congrats to Terry for his win, and everyone on Lost that was nominated!

Here's this week's episode, by the by - 2.05 ...And Found, and 2.06 Abandoned

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Podomatic provides this neat embedable player, but its under my username instead of the correct one. The episode you'll want is track 1. The Lost Flashbacks- Episode One. Just ignore the other ones. I'll try to put one of these up every week, because I think they're convenient - let me know if you like them, or I won't bother x.x

Enjoy the show, and don't forget to join us LIVE this Thursday June 14th at 9:00 p.m. EST. We'll be discussing 1.03 Tabula Rasa, and 1.04 Walkabout - its sure to be a good time, and we'd love some more fan input! We'll also be sure to fix some of the problems from this week, such as the breathing issue.

See you on Thursday!

Welcome!

Tonight we recorded our first episode, in which we discussed Pilot parts 1 and 2. We had a blast doing it, and I hope that you'll stop in next week as we discuss the next two (fantastic) episodes, 1.03 Tabula Rasa, and 1.04 Walkabout. You don't have to watch the episode prior to coming to the show, but why wouldn't you want to? =)

Our first episode from tonight is not currently available on Talkshoe, but you can find our feed here
